The National Consortium of State Guidance Leadership, along with thirty other organizations, corporations and individuals has provided 1,000 stuffed teddy bears and 1,000 stuffed monkeys to the children of American Samoa. They also provided sufficient monies in order to purchase and ship 500 student school kits with around 15 items in them for the children who lost much of their school supplies. This small island was devastated by 4 tidal waves which followed an earthquake in the South Pacific. Hundreds lost their lives and many children were left with nothing but fear and grief. The Consortiums Ex. Director, Harry Drier does consulting work in American Samoa on a regular basis and after the news of the tidal wave hit, he made contacts to see what was needed.
Surprisingly he was told they need stuffed animals and school
supplies for the grief counselors that were helping kids. It seems the
kids lost everything because the wave just completely washed everything
out of their schools and homes. Most of the island is a mountain and
the people live by the sea. The grief counselors stated it was
important for the younger kids to have something cuddly to hang on to
that would be their own. Counting all the in-kind contributions like
Monkeys, teddy bears and school supplies, this project brought in about
$19,000.00. If you are interested in more information or contributing
